Having a child helps you to reflect on the origin of authority. A household is not a democracy, and it never can be, due to the inherent differences among members. But who has the power? Surely the parents do. They have resources and autonomy that the children can only dream of. But have you ever changed a baby's diaper? What lower role in society exists, than to wipe the butt of another! But you can't say no! The moment you neglect such a need, you begin to fail as a parent. Your power and authority only exist insofar as you use it to serve the needs of your children. In a beautiful irony, to be a leader is to serve the lowest.
